Dare to...entertain.

Sunday, November 22, 2009

This week's challenge in Kim's party was...Dare to Entertain.  Since I don't host Thanksgiving dinner and I don't have any formal china this was a stretch for me.  But I did my best, so let's take a look at my take on a "Modern Thanksgiving".

I dug out a green tablecloth from Target (purchased on sale, and this will be great for future use), and picked up the three tall candles that you see in the picture.  I used scrapbook paper as the place-mat, plain Jane cream dishes, and a smaller appetizer plate featuring a specific style of wine for the settings.  Then I moved the candlesticks from the front room onto the table, topped with pumpkins from our trip pumpkin picking.  I used some leftover scrap-booking letters to spell out Happy Thanks Giving on each candle.  I think the look is simple, yet romantic, especially with the candles lit and the chandelier dimmed.

Total Cost: $14
-Target table cloth $5
-3 tall candles $5

And I have to admit, I love the look of a set table.  It makes me smile when I walk by...definitely something I will keep doing.  So what did you Dare to Do?  Check out how daring everyone else was over at Kim at NewlyWoodwards.

THAT is what you throw together???? It looks so great. I love the green tablecloth with the runner. I love a set table, too. I try to always keep it semi-set or it starts to collect junk.

I love the candleholders with the pumpkins, too.

So glad you joined in this week. I love seeing what you came up with. =)

Great job. Haven't been able to view your blog all week. Kept haning while downloading pics. Glad to finally get on!

ALL of my tables are set simply. Once I started they make me smile too! My teen daughter even comments on how nice they look. PLUS! I'm all about cheap, thrifty, made over, salvaged finds. Who says you can't set a pretty 'fancy' table on a sweet little budget? Not me! You did an awesome job!

I love your table! Linens like the tablecloth that can be used over and over are my favorite. Classic and simple is best.

PS. you're so right about the set table bringing a smile. I set mine this afternoon and it made me feel so happy to come home from family dinner at my in-laws to a beautiful table.
Enjoy yours!

I have to have at least a runner and a centerpiece on the table, otherwise it collects miscellaneous junk all day long. :-) Your table looks great, and way to go on a budget!

Good work on your price deals! Wow! And your table looks lovely. Happy Thanksgiving. :)

The table looks amazing I'm almost afraid to touch it b/c I feel like might ruin the perfection somehow. Also, good thing I didn't blow out that candle any harder than I did or we would have had candle wax on table cloth #2 haha. Great job!

I am right there with you about the smile that a set table brings to my face. Originally I was planning on putting some of the dishes away after the blog party, but now I think they are going to stay out. I love what you did with all the great deals you scored!
